Economic Empowerment & Livelihoods
We promote women’s access to and control over financial and productive resources. Our approach to economic empowerment centres on dismantling structural barriers to wealth creation, providing access to Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and scale-up opportunities for women business owners, enhancing women’s financial literacy and resilience, and amplifying their role in shaping economic policies. We believe that economic justice is essential for gender equality and lasting development.
Under the Hewlett-supported initiative, delivered in partnership with Christian Aid, we trained women’s groups on economic justice and financial literacy, equipping them to advocate for gender-responsive tax policies and fairer economic systems. Additionally, through the Irish Aid Project, we strengthened the financial management capacity of Women’s Community Support Groups (WCSGs) by training them in financial management and budget monitoring. Following the training, we supported WCSGs to establish their own Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) accounts as internal sources of finance to further enhance their economic resilience.
